Armada 7 Silver Sox 1

The runs came in bunches for the Armada in the fifth and sixth innings tonight. Four in the fifth and three in the sixth. The pitching was just as good as the Fleet extend their win streak to three and improve their overall record to 22-20. Reno drops to 16-26 in the North Division.

Starter Nick Bierbrodt (2-4) got the win pitching a great game going 7 innings giving up 5 hits walking 2 and striking out 12. What a way to go into the All-Star game for Nick. Dusty Gober and Sean Buller combined to go 2 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. The bats awoke in the fifth breaking up Reno starter Gustavo Vasquez's perfect game. SS Cleatus Davidson drove in two thanks to his triple. He finished the day 2 for 3 and scoring a run. Rookie 3B Michael Glomb would drive in two. 1B Brett Flowers and 2B Julian Williams would each drive in a run as well.

Reno starter Gustavo Vasquez (0-1) was perfect going into the fifth in his GBL debut, but got the loss pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs, 2 earned on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6. Reno's only run came off the bat of All-Star C DJ Dixon in the eighth to score LF Ross McCoy. 3B Carlos Madrid went 3 for 5 with two doubles.

Probable starters for tomorrow's game for Reno TBA and for Long Beach Andrew Layfield (0-1) which will be his first start of the season. Game time is at 5:05pm.

Steve Yeager wasn't there so player/hitting coach Ryan Lehr was filling in the duties as third base coach. With Lehr gone from third, the shifting of the position players was a little messy, but they go through it (Glomb at 3rd, Davidson at SS, and Julian Williams at 2nd). I thought Reno would really try to push their hitting to that side, but I don't think they ended up hitting there any more than usual.

Outstanding performance by N Bierbrodt. Started off a little shakey, but got into a zone and pitched one hell of a game. Steller defense and timely hitting once again pervailed. Koodos to R Lehr for taking over the Manager's spot and fielding a team that played great ball. I like the way J Williams has stepped in and played a great 2nd base. Not only has he played great defense, but his timley hitting has been a factor more than once.
Let's see if any of these temperary possition changes become permanent down the stretch. See you at the park. GO ARMADA!!!!
