Armada 4 Flyers 7

The rivalry has now entered Orange County and the first place Flyers came out on top in the first game of a double header 7-4 over the Armada. The Flyers ended their 3 game losing streak and extend their record to 22-9. Long Beach has now lost two in a row and overall 14-17.

Long Beach native Nick Bierbrodt (1-4) started the game striking out 3 of the first 5 batters faced. Unfortunately, the third inning was not his best. Giving up a 3 run home run to 2B Jermy Acey. Followed by a RBI double by C Josh Arhart. Nick would go 4 innings of a 7 inning game giving up 6 runs on 7 hits, walking 4 and striking out 4.

The offense for the Armada started slow, but came on in the seventh. A solo home run by Dan "Double" Trumble in the fifth, RBI double by 1B Brett Flowers in the sixth and two runs came across in the seventh thanks to doubles by RF Chris Klemm and CF Steve Moss.

Flyers starter Jesse Smith (1-0) got his first victory going six innings giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4. Game 2 is under way at about 8pm on the Long Beach Armada radio network.
