Armada 4 Vipers 6

We expected a pitcher's duel today and both did not disappoint. Evan Greusel and Rik Currier (pictured left) were going at it for seven innings at Blair Field. Each having at least ten punch outs and giving up no more than four runs. The Armada had a one run lead until the eighth inning when Calgary tied and later went ahead in the ninth to continue their now seven game win streak. The Armada have now dropped five in a row after starting the second half 3-0.

Vipers starter Evan Greusel pitched a no decision going 6 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, walking 1 and striking out 10. Jon Huizinga (3-2) got the win pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 2. RF Darryl Brinkley went 3 for 5 driving in two in the second inning. 3B Travis Drader and CF Colin Moro, the number eight and nine hitters for Calgary, combined to go 4 for 7 driving in three and scoring three.

Eight runners were left on base for the Armada to only four to Calgary. Five errors did not help the Fleet either. RF Chris Klemm and CF Steve Moss went 2 for 5. Klemm drove in a run, while Moss scored a run. 1B Norm Hutchins went 2 for 3 driving in a run in the first. 2B Cleatus Davidson and SS Michael Glomb went 1 for 4, each driving in a run in the second.

Starter Rik Currier pitched a no decision going 7 innings giving up 3 unearned runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 11. Another great performance from Currier. Justin Segal (1-2) got the loss in relief pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs, two earned on 3 hits and walking 1.

Probable pitchers tomorrow for Calgary Nathan Melek (4-2) and for Long Beach Ryan Claypool (4-5). Game time is at 7:05pm at ibnsports.com and on the Long Beach Armada Radio Network at longbeacharmada.com.
