Armada 1 Flyers 4

Complete opposite in the second game of the doubleheader at Blair Field. The Armada won a pitchers duel 4-2 in game one and the Flyers won the pitcher duel in game two. The Fleet had the lead 1-0 until a four run sixth for the Flyers gave them the lead for good as they won 4-1 winning their first game of the second half (1-3). Long Beach goes down for the first time in the second half (3-1).

The Orange County bats woke up with all four of their runs coming late in the game. 1B Fernando Pacheco and RF Jeff Van Houten each drove in a run for the Flyers in the sixth inning. 2B Jermy Acey, DH Patrick Breen, 3B Jeff LaRue and Pacheco would each come across the plate in the sixth. CF Travon Jackson went 2 for 3. LaRue also went 2 for 3 with a run scored.

The pitching was outstanding for both sides again in game two. Flyers starter Bob Cramer (3-2) pitched his fourth complete game of the season going all seven innings giving up 1 unearned run on 3 hits, walking 1 and striking out 8. Armada starter Ryan Claypool (4-5) pitched great himself going 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3. Justin Segal came on in relief pitching 2 innings giving up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits.

Only three hits total for the Fleet as they fell short to Orange County. CF Steve Moss went 2 for 3 driving in the only run for the Armada. 1B Brett Flowers (pictured left) got the other hit going 1 for 3. SS Michael Glomb scored on Moss's single in the third after stealing second for his eleventh steal in just his sixteenth professional game for Long Beach.

Long Beach returns to action for a three game series against the Reno Silver Sox in Reno, Nevada on Tuesday. They will return home for a three game series against the Calgary Vipers on Friday.

3-1 to start the 2nd half. Not bad. Great series with OC Criers.
Looking over the stats for the 5 game series, the boys dominated in all catagories.
Battine avg..LB .290 OC .231
ERA..... LB 4.40 OC 5.20

Our pitching once again is the best in the GBL. LB pitching held 2 of the GBL's top hitters in P Breen and M Okano.

Breen went 2-16
Okano laid a golden goose egg going
0-21. As I have said before, give us good pitching and the boys will win ballgames. The hitting has not been above avg, but timely also. Big hits with runners on base will get it done most of the time. one final note. With T Torcato not in the lineup and hitting .200 in the no 4 slot, the DH spot has really produced lately. I hope this trend continues the rest of the seoson. Let's get the word out that there is one hell of a pro baseball team in Long Beach. Let's fill up those seats at Blair field.
Go Armada!!!
See you at the park.
