Armada 0 Silver Sox 5

The Armada came out before the All-Star break looking to extend their win streak to four games. The Silver Sox had other plans though as they put on a pitching and defensive show shutting down the Armada for a 5-0 victory. Reno extends their overall record to 17-26 and Long Beach falls to 22-21 before the break.

Andrew Layfield (0-2) pitched well in his first start, but got the loss going 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1. Ryan Claypool came into relief for 4 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. DH Chris Klemm went 2 for 4, C Octavio Martinez, 2B Julian Williams and SS Michael Glomb would each get a hit. Long Beach was kept quiet for 5 total hits.

Reno would send out six pitchers to five hit the Armada on Sunday. Jesse Hall (5-3) who did not start the game would win it pitching 2 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 1. SS Andre Alvarado went 2 for 3 driving in two and scoring a run. RF Ross McCoy would drive in a run and score two. All-Star C DJ Dixon went 2 for 4 and so did DH Juan Senreiso who also scored a run.

P Nick Bierbrodt, P Rik Currier, P Nick Cavanagh, 1B Norm Hutchins and C DJ Dixon now move on to Tuesday's All-Star Game at San Angelo, Texas against the United League All-Stars. Game time is at 5:20pm. The Armada are back in action on Thursday July 17 against the hated ones, The OC Flyers at Blair Field. Game time is at 7:05pm.

pbainvSorry to say, but the boys laid a goose egg all over Blair Field last night. The Pitching was not bad. Except for the defense of M. Glomb at short, the boys looked like one burned out group of ballplayers just going through the motions to get the game over and get to well deserved 3 days off. Not just last night, but over the weekend, batters 1-4 went a combined 4-46 at the plate. (.087) batteing avg. Good thing that the pitching was great on Friday and Saturday. Yeaterdays pitching was not bad either. Hopefully the 3 days off is what the boys need in order to come out firing on all cylinders and jump out quick in the 2nd half of the season. I predict the boys will win the 2nd half by at least 2 games and go into the playoffs. Lets see what happens. See you at the park.
GO ARMADA!!!
