Armada 2 Cracker Cats 1

A low scoring game turned out to be a pitcher's duel as well. Long Beach jumped out to an early lead in the third then Edmonton would tie it at 1-1 in the sixth. The Armada would win with a walk off base hit in the seventh to win Game 1 2-1.

Garrett Murdy (1-0) (pictured left) in his first start this season pitched a great game. Going the distance 7 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 10. That will help towards a rotation spot. The bats were on fire as RF Chris Klemm went 3 for 3 with a RBI double in the third. 2B/SS Michael Glomb went 1 for 3 with the walk off base hit in the seventh to score C Octavio Martinez.

Edmonton starter Jorge DePaula was also great making his GBL debut. DePaula went 6 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 8. Kevin Altman ( 3-1) pitched the seventh getting the loss going 1/3 inning giving up 1 run on 2 hits. RF Ruddy Yan was 2 for 3 doubling in LF Marcus Nettles in the sixth. DH Carlos Arroyo went 2 for 3 with a double.

Probable pitchers Game 2 for Edmonton Chris Cullen (3-0) and for Long Beach Rik Currier (5-4).

Garret "mudcat" Murdy was a stud on the mound today. Got into a little mess late in the game, but made some great pitches to get out of the inning unscaithed. Great outing by "mudcat".

See you at the park.
