Pennant Race Underway

With one week to go in the 2008 regular season, the Armada finds itself a half-game out of first place with a chance to make the post-season for the third time in four years.  The first-half champion Orange County Flyers are 20-14 with Long Beach and St. George right behind tied at 20-15.  Long Beach, 9-1 in its last 10 games, took advantage of a recent home stand by using Calgary, Edmonton and Chico as steps on a staircase toward the top of the GBL South Division.

Tonight the Armada starts a three-game series against the Yuma Scorpions (18-16).  Winning the series could be the boost to put Long Beach into the post season.  The Fleet will wrap up the regular season with a big six-game home-and-home series against the rival Flyers next week (Aug 26-31).

GBL South Standings
OC      20-14
LB       20-15
STG    20-15
YUM   18-16

Great homestand for the boys. 9-1 great job. Yes they are in the middle of a great playoff race. As long as the pitching continues to be there both in the starting and relief roles, and the timely hitting is also there, the boys will make some noise down the stretch. Although they have the tougher schedule out of all the teams in Southern division the rest of the way, I still say that they will make the playoffs. Not only has the pitching and the timely hitting been there lately, but the defense has been there also. In the last homestand, the boys committed 14 errors in 10 games. (1.4 errors per game) That may seem like alot, but most of them did not cost the boys any runs. Just like the timely hitting, the timely defense has been there also. BIG defensive plays at the right time will help you win games.
Kudos to Seth Etherton for a great start after coming off T Johbn surgery. Kudos to N Bierbrodt coming in reief, and kudos to N Cavanah in his role of closer again. I must give kudos to "SKIP" S Yeager for playing great situation baseball. ie hit and run, double steals, delayed steals ect. No wonder he has been a winner everywhere he has managed or coached.
Let's see if the boys can take at least 2-3 from Yuma. Heck a sweep would be even sweeter. Yeah Boyyy!!!
GO ARMADA!!!!!
See you at the park.
